  • Why do we describe it as a life in tea?

    Working in a tea estate is not a typical 9-5 office job but more a way of life. From the day you join as a Management Trainee, you will live on a tea estate and become a member of the 350 plus McLeod Russel Management family who come from all over the country.

    What do we look for in a candidate?

    Apart from physical fitness which is a pre-requisite, we also seek candidates who enjoy interacting with people and a have a positive aptitude to deal with challenging situations. We look for fresh college graduates who are eager and expected to learn on the job. A background in agriculture or engineering is beneficial, though not mandatory.

    An enjoyment of the outdoor life including enthusiasm for playing sports, socialising and wildlife is important in order to make full use of the available benefits.

    Do you have a minimum working age or qualification?

    Yes. To join as a Management Trainee on our tea estate, you need to be a graduate and under 24 years old. In addition to this, we do not expect our Trainees to be or get married till they are confirmed as permanent employees.

    Why do I need to complete the CV application form?

    This enables us to handle all applications fairly and efficiently, matching the skills and experience of the candidate to the requirements of the role.

    What happens to my application?

    We conduct interviews for our Management Trainee positions in September every year. Should we feel you might suit our requirements, we shall inform you 2 months before the proposed interview. If you are not successful we shall remove your details from our records after 1 year.

    Is there a Probationary period? What is this like?

    Yes. 12 months with a further six month extension in some cases. After this, at the sole discretion of the Management, you shall be confirmed as a permanent employee. If your performance during your probationary period is not considered to be satisfactory, your employment will be terminated and/or you will be requested to submit your resignation.

    You will meet your Manager when you arrive on your first day at the tea estate and he will begin your induction to our business. This includes an introduction to both the working as well as the social life. As a bachelor, you might be expected to share a bungalow with another Trainee or an Assistant Manager. You shall take instructions from and report on all matters to your Manager.
