![]() Amidst the extensive playing fields and campus, the school building stands well designed to accommodate modern school facilities, the need of growing children and display traditions of local architecture. There are separate boarding houses for boys and girls. Every hostel is capable of housing 90 to 100 students in a variety of units ranging from 12 person dormitories, for junior students to 4 person bed suites in the senior years. Set in the heart of Assam surrounded by tea gardens, AVS stands on 250 acres of green, undulating grounds.Up to nine scholarships are awarded each year by The Williamson Magor Education Trust for students in Class 11 based upon performance in ICSE or entrance examinations. Bursaries are also available for those needing financial assistance.
The games that are played in school are cricket, hockey, football, basketball, tennis, badminton, squash, swimming, volleyball, softball, table tennis, archery, horse riding and athletics. Adventure activities such as mountaineering, trekking, camping and rafting are all popular among the students.

The Music School trains students in playing the tabla, piano, sitar, and guitar. The school boasts an enterprising Craft, Design and Technology Department with an emphasis on textile technology. The hobbies and craft that are available for students to follow are many and varied and include carpentry, photography and electronics.
Community service activities are encouraged and these include adult literacy and membership of The Junior Red Cross as well as a host of conservation tasks both on and off campus.

The Williamson Magor Scholarship Scheme was introduced from the academic year 1992-93 to encourage brilliant young students, from Assam, to purse higher education at reputed institutions in India, in the following fields -
Annually 6 scholarships are awarded and to date 90 students have been selected with the vast majority receiving placements in India and abroad.
Our Chairman, Mr B. M. Khaitan formally announced the institution of this award while laying the foundation stone of the Assam Valley School in February 1990.
Each year the recipient of the award is selected on the basis of nominations from literary experts and is finally chosen by an apex body of distinguished personalities.
