  • The school was opened on 1st April 1995 by The Williamson Magor Education Trust to provide the opportunity of a high quality education for all children from any background throughout India and the region, in particular, for those children living and studying in Assam.

AVS is committed to a residential education, believing that it creates one of the best environments for effective pastoral care and support while encouraging mutual responsibility and a sense of community. Children are prepared to take their place in, and create, a caring and forward-looking society.

Amidst the extensive playing fields and campus, the school building stands well designed to accommodate modern school facilities, the need of growing children and display traditions of local architecture. There are separate boarding houses for boys and girls. Every hostel is capable of housing 90 to 100 students in a variety of units ranging from 12 person dormitories, for junior students to 4 person bed suites in the senior years. A good number of Class 12 students have a room to themselves.

Bursaries are also available for those needing financial assistance.

The games that are played in school are cricket, hockey, football, basketball, tennis, badminton, squash, swimming, volleyball, softball, table tennis, archery, horse riding and athletics. Adventure activities such as mountaineering, trekking, camping and rafting are all popular among the students.

The Music School trains students in playing the tabla, piano, sitar, and guitar. The school boasts an enterprising Craft, Design and Technology Department with an emphasis on textile technology. The hobbies and craft that are available for students to follow are many and varied and include carpentry, photography and electronics.

Community service activities are encouraged and these include adult literacy and membership of The Junior Red Cross as well as a host of conservation tasks both on and off campus.
